Internal Hemorrhoids
(Piles)
Internal
hemorrhoids develop inside the passageway of the anus above the
dentate line. Internal hemorrhoids are usually painless since the
visceral nerves that are above the dentate line do not sense pain,
only pressure.
Sometimes internal
hemorrhoids cause vague discomfort and minimal
bleeding
if a hard stool rubs against them during a bowel movement.
Internal
hemorrhoids may protrude (prolapsed) outside the anus, where they
appear as small, grape-like masses and can cause severe pain.
Internal Hemorrhoids
Symptoms
Internal hemorrhoid symptoms are more
severe than
external hemorrhoid
symptoms.
Painless bleeding and protrusion
during bowel movements are the most common symptom. You may find
bright red streaks of blood on the toilet paper or bright red blood
in the toilet bowl after having a normal bowel movement. Blood may
also be visible on the surface of the stool.
Other symptoms of internal
hemorrhoids may include:
- Itching - is a frequent
complaint, because internal hemorrhoids often seep mucus, which
can cause itching.
- Skin irritation - large
hemorrhoids that bulge from the anus may secrete mucus, causing
mild irritation.
- Discomfort - you may still feel
the urge to pass the stool right after having a bowel movement.
This uncomfortable feeling is caused by the bulging of the
hemorrhoid in the end portion of the large intestine (anal
canal). In general, the larger the hemorrhoid, the greater the
discomfort.
- Pain - most internal hemorrhoids
are not painful. However, large hemorrhoids that bulge from the
anus may become painful if they swell and are squeezed by the
muscles that control the anus. Severe pain may be a sign that
the blood supply to the hemorrhoid is being cut off
(strangulated hemorrhoid). Emergency treatment is needed.
Internal
Hemorrhoids Treatment
Natural
hemorrhoids treatment
can be very successful for treatment of internal hemorrhoids. Most
sufferers feel immediate relief from hemorrhoid pain. Length of the
treatment and cure of internal hemorrhoids depends on the size of
hemorrhoids.
